THE FLUTE

Hindu mythology and epics hold the belief that among the 10 God incarnation, Krishna alone is endowed with all the 16 Kalas or attributes, making him a complete God - the Supreme Being.

Wise and valorous, he was loving and loved, far seeing and yet living for the moment, gifted with sage-like detachment and yet intensely human.

Come with us as we journey to Brindaban to relive moments from Krishna's youth.

CHITRANGADA   Artistic Director - Priya Pawar

Written in 1937, Chitrangada is one of the most successful and widely performed works composed by the Indian Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.  The mythological episode from the epic Mahabharata in a very delicate and searching way details the tender moods and scintillating emotions of immortal bitter-sweet love affair between Arjuna (the third of the Pandavas, who was an unassailable warrior and unrivalled in archery) and Chitrangada, the rather unattractive princess of Manipur.

Gratified by the devotion and worship of the king of Manipur, Lord Shiva granted him a boon that only sons be born to his family.  Despite that, when princess Chitrangada was born, she was brought up as a male heir and trained in manly pursuits; she excelled in martial techniques to become an expert warrior.  Arjuna, while traveling far and wide during the twelve year' commitment to celibacy, happened to arrive in Manipur and met Chitrangada amongst dense forest trees and white mountain peaks.  Thus begins this illustrious and moving story ...
